VALLETTA， March 22 (Xinhua) -- The Maltese government on Wednesday insisted on the reduction of illegal bird trapping in the country， rejecting the claim by the Committee Against Bird Slaughter (CABS) that illegal bird trapping has seen a significant increase.


The CABS， an international NGO， launched a scathing attack this week on the Maltese government， stating that the Maltese coastline is riddled with illegal bird traps despite a ban on trapping in Spring.


CABS officer Fiona Burrows said that opening the legal finch trapping season in autumn had definitely amplified the amount of illegal spring trapping.


But it was refused by the government. A spokesperson with the Environment Ministry said that "Despite isolated incidents of illegal trapping of protected birds reported by anti-hunting NGOs in the local press， compliance with bird conservation legislation in Malta has never been as strong as it is today."


CABS officer Axel Hirschfeld informed Xinhua that new cases of illegal trapping in Malta are being reported every day， and the main problem is a huge lack of enforcement from the part of Maltese authorities.


While the situation regarding shooting protected birds has improved， a sharp increase has been observed with regards to illegal trapping， he added.


Hirschfeld stated that higher fines for hunting offences introduced by the Maltese government some years ago appear to act as a deterrent， however most of the cases that go to court have been reported by CABS and other NGOs， not due to the police force's own proactive efforts.


CABS will be filing a complaint against Malta with the European Commission. Hirschfeld confirmed that the report to the EU about the finch trapping situation in Malta in spring will be compiled when the season for this kind of poaching is over.


Maltese authorities have reiterated with Xinhua that contrary to the NGO's claims， enforcement against wildlife crime is ongoing and effective. Latest statistics indicate monitoring during hunting seasons has increased almost ten-fold in comparison with 2012.

Li Guangjun said Bangladeshi SMEs can export to China through e-commerce.


He said the bilateral trade between China and Bangladesh last year was about 15 billion U.S. dollars, out of which Bangladesh exported products worth 900 million dollars.
