LONDON Women's Austin Hooper Jersey , July 8 (Xinhua) -- Traditional Chinese music and modern influences of western music such as reggea, dub and grime, seem poles apart. But a concert in Liverpool on July 12 will prove that when east meets west the result is spectacular.
Liverpool's Pagoda Chinese Youth Orchestra will be teaming up with Jah Wobble, recognised as a global music collaborationist extraordinaire and post-punk trailblazer, to present a new piece of work, Jasmine Flower Fusion 2014.
The concert of music and dance takes place at the Pagoda in the heart of Liverpool's Chinatown on Saturday evening as part of the city's cultural program to mark Liverpool hosting the International Festival of Business.
There is also an added poignancy to the event, marking a year since the passing of the man everyone in Liverpool called Mr Li, founder and director of what is the UK's only Chinese Youth Orchestra.
It was Mr Li who, six years ago, collaborated with Jah Wobble for a series of concerts that enthralled audiences all over Britain with its hugely successful fusion of Eastern and Western music and dance.
Inspired by that unique project, the Pagoda Chinese Youth Orchestra has worked with Jah Wobble to create Jasmine Flower Fusion, an unprecedented mix of Chinese folk song and grime.
This idea for the new concert has come from the young members of the orchestra, with their ages ranging from three to 18, inspired by their collaboration with Jah Wobble back in 2008.
Little did Jah Wobble realise that from such a little acorn project would continue to grow and thrive, and five years on, he is returning to Liverpool to witness the progress of the youth orchestra, leading the evening performance with award winning songs from Chinese Dub, Jasmine Flower and something new to the young people - Reggae!
The International Festival For Business, hosted in Liverpool this year, is funding Jasmine Flower Fusion.
Liverpool's Resonate Music Education Hub and Our Big Gig, a national celebration of music are also at the heart of the event as Jah Wobble and the Pagoda Youth Orchestra invite the public to join them in the creation of Chinese music.
An accompanying workshop is being held at the Pagoda Arts Centre ahead of the evening concert. It will enable participants to learn how to make Chinese music on Western instruments and try some of the Chinese instruments for themselves.
Commenting on Saturday's performance, Jah Wobble promises "a heady brew of East-West fusion as Chinese music gets the dub treatment".
Artistic Director of the Pagoda Arts Centre Zi Lan Liao said "Everyone at Pagoda Arts is very excited about this project and looking forward to bringing the orchestra into a new musical phrase."
As one music critic commented: "The music is of the here and now, underpinned by Wobble's agile, reggaematic pulse. His prolific, varied output has made him a hard man to place, but here the punk wars survivor has produced something special."
Mr Li, or Liao Gui Xiong, a classically trained musician, arrived in Liverpool from south China in the early 1980s and established the orchestra that would play concerts in London's Royal Albert Hall as well as the Shanghai World Expo. He died last July.
The internet is full of stories about how various surveys “prove” something about a man’s manhood size – it’s too big, it’s too small, it’s just right, etc. People tend to put a lot of stock in these surveys, but the fact is, the vast majority of them are not really very useful. Putting aside for the moment the fact that other factors, such as a man’s attention to his male organ health, are ultimately more important than manhood size, why are these surveys often unreliable?
Sample size vs. manhood size
First, one of the primary reasons that many surveys – especially online surveys – come up short in the quality department is the size of the population being surveyed. In order to have validity, a survey needs to be answered by enough respondents to obtain a roughly representative sample size. The more people who respond, the more accurate a survey is likely to be. So if an online survey only has 100 respondents, it’s less likely to be accurate than one with 100,000.
But there’s a further problem with many online surveys – duplicate responses. A survey that claims to have 100 respondents may in fact have far fewer. For example, what if a survey which includes questions about manhood size recorded 100 responses – but 25 of them came from one man who claimed to have a10-inch manhood? That would skew the results significantly.
Sample composition
Another problem isn’t the number of respondents but how well they fit the profile of the intended topic. If a guy wants information on manhood size in the whole population, it needs to be diverse – meaning respondents need to come from different ages, ethnicities, geographical areas, etc.
Sometimes a site may purposely seek respondents that are not representative. This can be done for a legitimate reason, but it also can be done to try to push a product they are selling. For example, a website that seeks to encourage men to use their manhood enlargement product is likely to have a viewer base which tends to have smaller members – and their responses may skew results in a survey about manhood size.
Truthfulness
There’s also the matter of truthfulness in respondents’ answers. Many online sites don’t check to see if the respondents are who they say they are – which means, for example, that a woman could easily fill out a survey about “his” manhood. It’s also no secret that men often tend to exaggerate their manhood size. Even in an anonymous forum like an online survey, many me.
